
Rod Fergusson is leaving Blizzard after 5 years. In his time on the studio, Fergusson has primarily acted as the final supervisor and face of the Diablo sequence, overseeing a resurgence of kinds for Blizzard’s storied action-RPG franchise.
Fergusson introduced his departure via Twitter, saying, “After 5 years of driving the Diablo franchise ahead with 4 huge launches, it is time for me to step away from Blizzard/Microsoft, sword in hand, and see what’s subsequent. The groups are arrange for achievement, with an exiting slate of releases forward. I am extremely happy with what we have constructed collectively and searching ahead to what comes subsequent for Diablo, and for me.”
Fergusson got here to Blizzard in 2020 after a protracted stint at The Coalition, the Xbox-owned studio that primarily works on Gears of Warfare, a sequence that he has been engaged on, sporadically, since near its inception. Again within the day, Fergusson got here onto the unique Gears of Warfare and shepherded its closing stretch of growth. Fergusson would go on to have a hand in most video games within the series–and briefly helped Irrational Video games on BioShock Infinite–before departing for Blizzard.
In his position as GM of Diablo, Fergusson oversaw the discharge of Diablo II Resurrected, a remake of the beloved second recreation within the franchise, in addition to Diablo Immortal, a completely new cellular adaptation of the sequence. His largest challenge although was Diablo IV, which introduced the sequence again to its darkish roots again in 2023. The sport and its first growth, Vessel of Hatred, obtained optimistic critiques.
Fergusson has not disclosed what’s subsequent for him.
