Double Dragon Revive Announced as a New 3D Beat ‘Em Up by Arc System Works

Arc System Works, the builders behind Dragon Ball FighterZ and Responsible Gear Try, is engaged on a 3D revival of the traditional 2D beat ‘em up recreation Double Dragon. In keeping with Famitsu (translated by Video Games Chronicle), the brand new Double Dragon recreation will see Arc System Works reimagine the Eighties Nintendo Leisure System-era recreation with 3D-modeled characters.

Double Dragon was a mainstay on arcades and consoles via the late ’80s and and early 90s, showing on a multitude of platforms and at one level teaming up with the Battletoads (it is true). It is revered as some of the influential beat ’em ups of all time, with classics like Ultimate Battle and Streets of Rage following in its footsteps.

Arc System Works acquired the rights to Double Dragon and different traditional beat ‘em up collection Kunio-Kun (River Metropolis) from Technos Japan Corp in 2015. Since then, it has launched a myriad of video games within the aforementioned collection. Chief amongst them was Double Dragon 4— which was made in collaboration with the collection’ authentic director Yoshihisa Kishimoto—and its anime-influenced spin-off, River Metropolis Women.

Whereas the previous was met acquired poor opinions, the latter garnered tons of crucial acclaim. What’s extra, River Metropolis Women 2 featured Double Dragon leads Billy and Jimmy Lee as playable DLC characters in River Metropolis Women 2. A roguelike spin-off, titled Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons, was launched in 2023 to common opinions.

Arc System Works’ Double Dragon revival is predicted to launch someday in 2025 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC.
