Hello everybody, I’m Jenn, Lead Author and Voice Producer on Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Since revealing the recreation in June, we’ve been blown away by its reception (and impressed by the eagle-eared listeners who recognized the voices in the trailers). It brings us nice pleasure to lastly reveal our English voice cast and share some extra details about our characters and their world.
We’ve lived and breathed these characters for the previous few years, so it was surreal and an honor to witness our unbelievable voice cast carry them to life.
The actors have been phenomenal to work with (and simply all-around nice folks). We had rather a lot of enjoyable throughout the recording classes. The cast superbly conveyed the complexity of the characters, who’ve every been formed by the harshness of their world. Each character has been affected by deep and fixed loss and has handled this in their very own method.
Beforehand, we launched 4 of the characters.
Charlie Cox (Daredevil) is the voice of Gustave, the lead engineer of Expedition 33. Gustave grew up in Lumière beneath the Paintress’ shadow and has devoted his life to safeguarding the metropolis. Together with his remaining 12 months ticking away, Gustave is hell-bent on defeating the Paintress and reclaiming a future for Lumière’s youngsters.
Jennifer English (Baldur’s Gate 3) performs Maelle, a shy loner keen to flee the constraints of Lumière. Orphaned as a baby, Maelle has at all times felt like an outsider. Her solely connection is with Gustave, her foster brother. She is the youngest member of the Expedition, at 16, and sees this as her likelihood to lastly discover the world past.
Kirsty Rider (Sandman) voices Lune, the chief researcher of the Expedition. Lune is extremely pushed in her quest to defeat the Paintress and full the work of her mother and father. She feels keenly the weight of duty and the gravity of the stakes concerned.
Shala Nyx (The Outdated Guard) voices Sciel, a relaxed and cheerful warrior unfazed by the obstacles forward. Overcoming her previous has allowed her to just accept the odds towards them. They are going to do all of their energy, and it’ll both be sufficient or it gained’t.
In our newest trailer, we introduce two new characters.
Many of you astutely recognized the voice of our beloved Ben Starr (Last Fantasy XVI), who performs Verso, a harmful stranger monitoring the Expedition’s each transfer.
We requested Ben how he’d describe Verso, and he mentioned, “misplaced, lonely, and harmful,” and that he expects gamers to really feel “each emotion possible” as they get to know his character.
Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings, Black Panther) performs the function of Renoir, a person relentlessly pushed to avoid wasting his household. He is aware of that victory calls for sacrifice, and he’s able to pay the worth.
We even have the great Wealthy Keeble and Maxence Cazorla taking part in two of our favourite characters. We’ll share extra about them quickly.
Growing the characters was a multi-part course of, which included charting an in depth historical past of Lumière and every character’s household historical past and considering by how prior generations responded to the Paintress. These elements all performed a job in who every character is and what they’re making an attempt to beat.
In some ways, the course of of writing is the final RPG. It’s an prolonged thought experiment the place we place our characters, with their backstories, in these explicit conditions, and step into their footwear. What do they do? How do they really feel? How have their previous experiences formed them, and the way does that affect their decisions right this moment?
Cast and characters aren’t the solely new components on this trailer. Attentive followers might have acknowledged new places, alongside new enemies. Golgra and The Tisseur are two fearsome adversaries who will check your reflexes in our reactive turn-based fight.
