Nintendo’s discontinuation of the $500 Nintendo Switch 2 bundle with Mario Kart World is akin to a value hike, in keeping with skilled online game trade advisor Matthew Ball.
Talking to The Game Business following the discharge of his “The State of Video Gaming in 2026” report, the dialog drifted towards the DRAM disaster the online game trade at the moment faces and all the value hikes which have been occurring consequently. Ball argued that whereas the bottom value of Switch 2 hasn’t gone up but, the discontinuation of the Mario Kart World bundle is actually a value enhance for most individuals.
“Nintendo terminated the Switch 2 bundle with Mario Kart after three to 4 months,” Ball stated, “That’s actually early. And I suspected it’s primarily a DRAM factor. It’s $449 for the Switch 2. It’s $80 for Mario Kart. That’s $530 all in. [Nintendo] sells them for $500 as a mixed unit, but when they depreciate that unit in order that it’s $450, and in order for you Mario Kart, you now must spend $80.”
Ball in the end factors out that “they’ve performed a value enhance for the 85% of shoppers that purchase Mario Kart,” which is now “getting near a ten% enhance.” The person retail costs of $450 for a Switch 2 and $80 for Mario Kart World haven’t modified since they each launched on June 5, 2025.
As of now, Nintendo has not stated it plans to lift the bottom value of the Nintendo Switch 2. Earlier this month, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa instructed traders, “As for any future change within the value of Nintendo Switch 2 {hardware}, no choice has been made at the moment. Any choice to vary the value will probably be decided comprehensively.”
