Julian LeFay, ‘Father of The Elder Scrolls,’ Has Died Aged 59, a Week After Stepping Back From Game Development Due to Cancer

Julian LeFay, Bethesda’s former chief engineer identified amongst followers because the ‘Father of The Elder Scrolls’ collection, has died aged 59.

It was introduced final week that LeFay, now co-founder and technical producer at OnceLost Video games, had stepped again from sport growth after a prolonged battle with most cancers, so as to spend time together with his household and family members.

A statement from OnceLost Video games, revealed at this time, has now confirmed LeFay’s passing — “with profound unhappiness and heavy hearts”.

“Julian LeFay was not simply a colleague — he was a visionary who essentially formed the gaming trade as we all know it at this time,” OnceLost Video games’ assertion reads. “Generally known as the ‘Father of The Elder Scrolls’, Julian directed the creation of legendary titles together with Elder Scrolls 1 and a couple of: Enviornment, Daggerfall, and Battlespire.

“His pioneering work established the muse for open-world RPGs and influenced numerous builders and video games that adopted.”

Born in Denmark in 1965, LeFay started his profession engaged on early Amiga and NES video games, earlier than changing into one of Bethesda’s earliest staff in 1987.
